Workshop: Drawing from the Figure - Foundation for A Personal Interpretive Approach
Friday, June 28th 9:15 AM – 12:15 PM with Tiago Finato
The human body is a complex and expressive subject to capture. This workshop is directed towards giving a structured approach to drawing that is modeled after the 19th century French academic style of work.
In this context, students will gain a more comprehensive understanding of the processes of structuring a drawing, both technically and mechanically. We will be working from a nude model.
Participants provide their own supplies. Please note the suggested material list:
One pad 18" x 24" Strathmore drawing paper, white or gray
Vine charcoal pack
Graphite pencils – 2H, HB, 2B, 4B
Charcoal Pencil kit
One 5” x 7” chamoise cloth
Prismacolor 1-1/4” × 3/4” × 1/4” Kneaded eraser
Stadler white eraser
Pencil sharpener or sharp blade/knife
Tiago Finato moved to the United States from Brazil in the year 2000 to further his research in the field of painting. First trained in the 19th century French academic style, Tiago went on to earn a BFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and an MFA from New Mexico State University. Finato has exhibited his work throughout the United States, Spain and Brazil.
