Events & Exhibitions
Thank you to all the volunteers, artists, and sponsors for contributing to the success of our beloved annual juried show, which ran from April 27 through May 12.
Volunteers are truly the heart of WAG, and help to make our arts initiatives successful for the community. We thank you!
The Judge for the exhibit was Mary Wojciechowski, an award-winning watercolor artist and art teacher who is a signature member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society.
The exhibit and its prizes were sponsored by Peckham's Greenhouse, which selected the winner of the prize for best interpretation of the theme, BLOOMS. The Judge selected the winners of the other prizes.
There was an abundance of talent displayed at the show, and the following prizes were awarded:
First Prize for Painting, Drawing, and Pastels: Mary Benefiel, "Field of Flowers," oil painting.
Second Prize for Painting, Drawing, and Pastels: Susan Czernika, "Algae Bloom," watercolor on yupo.
Honorable Mention Prize for Painting, Drawing, and Pastels: Janet Dubuc, "What Shall We Pick?," oil painting.
First Prize for Photography, Mixed Media, and Collage: Mary Ross, "Polka Dot Vase," collage.
Second Prize for Photography, Mixed Media, and Collage: Betsy Szel, "The Symbol of Sacrifice," collage.
Honorable Mention Prize for Photography, Mixed Media, and Collage: Donna Massano, "Breakfast at Thuya Gardens," photograph.

Westport Historical Society’s 3rd Annual House Tour
In past years, The Westport Historical Society and Westport Art Group have worked together during the historical society’s fundraiser, the Annual House Tour. This year we are also participating. Westport Art Group artists will be stationed at each stop on the house tour, and will later join tour attendees at the end-of-day reception, where they will display their wet-canvas creations.
The Westport Historical Society’s 3rd Annual House Tour will be held on July 28th, the last Sunday in July. Please see their website for more information on the tour, including tickets and details: http://wpthistory.org/our-events/house-tour/.
Call for Artists and Volunteers
Artists: Artists will be painting en plein air in the gardens/yards of the houses during the day, 11 am to 4 pm. At the end of the day, artists are invited to display and sell their paintings at the reception at the Handy House. Sales profits go to the artists entirely. WAG artists, please email your interest to Peter Lenrow at WAG, so that he may help organize what properties artists would prefer to paint: email@example.com.
Volunteers: The Westport Historical Society is looking for docents, house captains and parking attendants. Volunteers will receive a free ticket. The docents and parking attendants have 2 ½ hour shifts. The house captains need to be at the house during the entire event, but will get a break for lunch – to visit another house if they so choose.
The Society especially needs parking attendants. Couples or friends who would like to volunteer together will be assigned together. If you can volunteer, please call Jenny O’Neil at 508-636-6011.
The Periwinkle Shop
The Periwinkle Shop features small art items and handcrafted gifts made by our members, and is located in the Westport Art Group lobby. The Periwinkle Shop is open during classes and by appointment at 1740 Main Road, Westport Point, MA. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Call to Artists
WAG Member Artists and Artisans are invited to sell their artwork in the shop. Contact WAG if you are interested in adding your artwork or handcrafted items to the shop.
Small Exhibits at WAG
When several WAG artists want to exhibit their work together, they can send a proposal to the Small Exhibit Review Committee, consisting of Donna Massano, Janet Gendreau, and Jim Constantine. The proposal should include:
the names of the artists to be included
the kinds of artwork to be included
the number of pieces of artwork to be exhibited
possible opening and closing dates
things about the artists that make them qualified to offer a WAG-sponsored exhibit
willingness to provide publicity in addition to being posted in the WAG website
willingness to provide gallery attendants during the exhibit
The Review Committee will approve Small Exhibit proposals based initially on the qualifications of the artists who propose to exhibit their work. The qualifications that they consider include:
What is their exhibition history? Have they taken part in any juried exhibits? Have they won awards? Have they ever been invited to exhibit?
No registration fee will be charged by WAG. WAG will collect 25% of the sales of any artwork in the exhibit. Proposals should be sent to the Small Exhibit Review Committee at email@example.com.
