Liz Coxe

After a 30-year corporate career, I returned to art, my college major. Immediately I became absorbed in the visual process, and time drawing and painting flew by.  Although the product was at first disappointing, I was so engrossed in the process that it never occurred to me to quit.

Now, "10,000 hours" later, I make portrait, still life, and landscape paintings. My work is representational, and I usually work from a combination of direct observation and photos.

In my recent still life paintings I have chosen a smaller 8”x8” format that allows me to focus on moments of light, color and reflection. The process of careful small scale observation becomes a meditation for me. In my landscapes, I am drawn especially to sky reflections in the Westport River where we spend summers.
